Godzilla vs. King Kong Actress and Deaf Advocate, Kaylee Hottle, diᩚєs at 18

Groundbreaking Godzilla vs. King Kong actress Kaylee Hottle died early Tuesday. Hottle was one of two passengers involved involved in a car 𝔠r𝘢sh in Maryland. The 19-year-old driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the other passenger refused medical treatment at the scene.
According to a statement released by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, the 1995 Honda Accord was involved in a single-car 𝔠r𝘢sh after the vehicle “traveled off the right side of the two-lane roadway and struck a culvert.” Hottle, 18, was transferred to a local trauma center, where she was pronounced dead. Police believe excessive speed may have played a role in the fatal 𝔠r𝘢sh.
The deaf teenage actress appeared in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and she began her acting career at nine with a commercial for the assistive messaging app Glide, used by many members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, released a statement and a 23-minute-long Facebook announcement in ASL confirming the young actress’s dєatᩚh, captioned, “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take.” Her father is also deaf, as are many members of their family going back several generations. In his statement, Mr. Hottle said that Kaylee had a “strong love for the deaf community.”
In a 2024 interview with The Houston Chronicle, Hottle hoped to inspire other young deaf actresses through roles like Jia, her character in the Godzilla Kong series, who is also deaf and shares a special bond with Kong over their mutual homeland.
Her career was painfully brief, but Hottle leaves behind a meaningful legacy of deaf representation on one of Hollywood’s largest stages.
