On Thursday, June 25, 2026, 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña, a mother of five, was stabbed multiple times in broad daylight during a confrontation outside a busy local business (reported near a Sonic or on East 10th Street). She was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio for trauma care, but she succumbed to her injuries around 9 p.m. that evening.

A close friend later shared that she missed a call from Peña at 1:35 p.m.—just minutes before the incident escalated. The friend expressed deep regret, saying she wished she had answered and been there to potentially prevent it.

Suspects and Charges

Three women have been arrested and charged with murder:

Kitty Mia Diaz, 21

Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19 (her sister)

Kyandra Renee Faz, 21

Police arrested them the same day without incident. Reports indicate they knew the victim (the attack was not random), and an argument preceded the stabbing. A motive has not been publicly

released yet, and the investigation is ongoing. Mugshots circulating online have drawn attention for the suspects’ expressions.

Victim Background

Peña was remembered by friends and family as a devoted mother, loyal friend, and someone who was always there for others. A GoFundMe has been set up to support her five children.

This is a heartbreaking story of violence in a public setting during the daytime. My condolences go out to Caroline Peña’s family, friends, and especially her children—losing a parent so suddenly is devastating.
