Kaylee Hottle’s sudden passing has left her family devastated and struggling to cope with the heartbreaking loss.

At just 18, she left behind a legacy of talent, inspiration, and unforgettable memories.
The sudden dєatᩚh of Kaylee Hottle, the young actress who played Jia in the Godzilla vs. Kong films, continues to resonate weeks after a tragic car 𝔠r𝘢sh took her life at just 18 years old.

Now, her school is turning that grief into something meant to carry her name forward.

The Texas School for the Deaf is honoring Kaylee with a new scholarship following her dєatᩚh, remembering her not only as a rising Hollywood actress but also as a student and member of the Deaf community.

A life that changed after one role

Kaylee became internationally known after being cast as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021.

The character was a young Deaf girl who forms a special connection with Kong through American Sign Language. Kaylee’s performance brought authentic Deaf representation to a major Hollywood blockbuster, and she returned as Jia in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2024.

She was also nominated for a Saturn Award for her performance in the sequel.

But away from Hollywood, Kaylee was still a teenager finishing school and looking toward the future.

That future suddenly disappeared.

The 𝔠r𝘢sh that ended her life

In the early hours of July 21, 2026, Kaylee was a passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord traveling in Ijamsville, Maryland.

According to authorities, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert.

Kaylee was taken to a hospital by helicopter but died from multiple blunt-force injuries. The medical examiner ruled her dєatᩚh an accident. Police have said excessive speed was believed to have contributed to the 𝔠r𝘢sh. The driver, a 19-year-old man, survived with non-life-threatening injuries, while another passenger was not seriously hurt.

Her father chose forgiveness

One of the most heartbreaking parts of Kaylee’s story came afterward.

Her father, Joshua Hottle, traveled from Texas to Maryland after learning that his daughter had died.

In a message shared using American Sign Language, he spoke about the devastating journey to bring his daughter home. But he also revealed that he had forgiven the driver involved in the 𝔠r𝘢sh. His message was not about revenge Instead, he urged the driver not to allow the tᩚraɢedy to destroy the rest of his life. For a family that had just lost an 18-year-old daughter, the decision was an extraordinary act of compassion.

Kaylee’s legacy lives beyond the screen

Kaylee came from a multigenerational Deaf family and had used American Sign Language throughout her life.

Her breakthrough as Jia made her a role model for young Deaf viewers who rarely saw people like themselves represented in major Hollywood productions.

Now her school is creating a scholarship in her memory — a way for her name to continue helping other students pursue their futures.

Her story therefore isn’t ending with the 𝔠r𝘢sh.

It is becoming a story about representation, family, forgiveness and the young people she inspired.

Kaylee Hottle was only 18.

She had already appeared in two major Hollywood movies, inspired members of the Deaf community and begun building a career that seemed to be just getting started.

Then, in the early hours of a July morning, everything changed.

She was gone far too soon.

But through the characters she brought to life, the people she inspired and the scholarship being created in her name, her family and community are making sure that Kaylee’s story doesn’t end where her life did
